The 52nd Chicago International Film Festival presented by Cinema/Chicago starts October 13th, 2016. The festival is in the city for two weeks and features 138 brand new films along with approximately 50 short films. The film festival also consist of panels on such topics as black lives matter, financing films in the city, and media influences on social movements. Guest speakers will include 12 years a Slave Director. Steven McQueen, Empire’s Taraji P. Henson, and a host or producers and cinema figures throughout the fest.To help navigate around the festival we have compiled a list of top films to see during the journey:
‘La La Land’
As one of its opening night features, La La Land is an American film written and directed by DAmien Chazelle starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.La La Land opens in theaters December 16th, 2016. The festival screening is October 13th at 7:30 PM.
Starring Isabelle Huppert, this French film follows the journey of the daughter of a psycho-killer who is also CEO of a video game company portraying sexual violence. Directed by Paul Verhoeven the screening of ‘Elle’ will be October 20th at 8:30 PM.
Reigning form Singapore, this intense drama finds a prison guard working for his executioner. Fir Rahman stars in the family drama where coping mechanisms are inflicted and blue collar realities are exposed. This film is set to screen October 17th & 18th.
