Hidden Figures Screening In Chicago

Three African American females serves as mathematicians for NASA in the upcoming film Hidden Figures. Based on a true story, Hidden Figures dramatizes the life of Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson played by Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer, and Empire’s Taraji P. Henson. Johnson, Jackson, and Vaughn all worked in the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory in Virginia and were in charge of calculating flight trajectories.just like it’s book, Hidden Figures captures events of three of the most important women to contribute to John Glenn’s orbit to space in the 1960s.

This past weekend in Chicago Taraji P. Henson attended the 52nd Chicago International Film Festival where there was a private screening of the upcoming film.

Produced by Mimi Valdes and super producer Pharell. Valdes hopes that the movie portrays the women and their journey as inspiring and sends the message that it is possible to successfully diversify the tech industry or any industry for that matter. Valdes told Cnet this week, “It’s about exposure. It’s not about whether women or people of color can do the work, because just the example of our film shows they can.”  HIdden Figures is a film set to inspire all gender and races to dream big and achieve their goals.
