14-year-old Fall to His Death on Orlando Free Fall Ride

A 14-year-old boy fell to his death after riding the Orlando Free Fall ride at Icon Park on Thursday night around 11 pm.

First responders reacted to a call that the teen fell from the ride which opened in December of last year, standing 430-feet tall making it the world’s tallest free-standing drop tower. The ride carries 30 passengers at a time, taking them 430 feet into the air at 70 miles per hour.

The Orange County Sheriff”s Department announced the teen dead at the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

According to Today, videos taken by a bystander show riders asking about the seatbelts as they prepare to enjoy the attraction.

John Stine, director of sales and marketing for the Slingshot Group, the owner and operator of the ride said that the teen was in a safety harness before taking off.

This is the second death at Icon Park in less than two years. An employee died after doing a safety check for the 450-feet spinning swing ride in September 2020.
