Chicago to Open $500 Monthly Assistance Application

Applications for the Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot will open on Monday, April 25. The program will aid 5,000 low-income households with $500 monthly payments for a year.

Those eligible must be residents of Chicago, be 18 years of age or older, experienced economic hardship from COVID-19, and have an income at or below 250% of the federal poverty level.

The applications will open at 9 am on April 25 with a deadline of May 13. According to the city, only one person per household may enter the lottery.

The program is meant to help families living in poverty to access basic needs such as food and household items. The program is funded by the nonprofit, GiveDirectly
