MURDER VICTIM SHOT HIS KILLER BEFORE LOSING HIS LIFE

Authorities reported that a murder victim managed to shoot his killer before succumbing to his injuries. After the perpetrator fled, a bystander seized the victim’s gun, pursued the killer, and fired additional shots. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the 7400 block of South Euclid, as detailed by Chicago police and prosecutors.

Quijuan Lewis, a 20-year-old who had been on parole for less than two months following a gun conviction, emerged from a vehicle and took cover behind another car while the victim, 36-year-old Delegance Crawl, was walking down the street, according to prosecutors in a detention petition.  Allegedly, Lewis ambushed Crawl as he was engrossed in his phone, striking him multiple times in the head with a gun during their altercation on the street. Crawl eventually drew his own firearm.  Prosecutors claim that Lewis fatally shot Crawl in the back of the head, while Crawl managed to shoot Lewis in the leg. Lewis then sought assistance at a nearby gas station and concealed his weapon in a potato chip display, as per police and prosecutors.

Subsequently, an unidentified passerby retrieved Crawl’s gun from beside his lifeless body and proceeded to the gas station. Using Crawl’s firearm, the individual shot Lewis multiple times in the buttocks before fleeing the scene, officials stated in court documents. Chicago authorities purportedly found Lewis’ gun among the potato chip packets and subsequently filed a first-degree murder charge against him. Judge William Fahy approved the state’s detention petition. In light of the accusations, state officials are reevaluating Lewis’ parole status. Records indicate that he was sentenced to one year in mid-January after pleading guilty to unlawful weapon use. However, with the state’s customary 50% good behavior reduction and credits earned while incarcerated, he was released on January 18, the same day he was admitted. Stop the violence and let’s keep Mr. Crawl’s family in our prayers.
