Iesha Malone, a Chicago Collegiate Charter School teacher living in the Roseland neighborhood, is on a mission to open a bookstore called Rose Cafe that will provide mentorship, safety, and imagination for local youth. Growing up in an area considered a “book desert” with no bookstores for miles, Malone understands firsthand the importance of access to books, especially for children and teens. She envisions Rose Cafe not just as a place to buy books, but as a refuge – a place where kids can explore new worlds, find positive role models, and stay off the dangerous streets.
Iesha Malone has a powerful vision for her community – a vibrant gathering space where young girls feel welcomed, represented, and inspired. Her dream is to open the cozy bookshop on the corner of 107th Street and Martin Luther King Drive providing books that look like them.
