An 81-year-old Ohio man has been charged in the fatal shooting of an Uber driver he believed was working with a scammer, according to officials who said the victim was sent to the home by the same scammer.

William Brock told investigators he shot Loletha Hall, 61, outside his home on March 25th because he thought she was working with a man who called him pretending to be an officer at the local court, Lt. Kristopher Shultz of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to ABCNews, William Brock reportedly received multiple calls from “scammers,” who told him that a relative was under arrest. They reportedly demanded $12,000 in bail money, and claimed a driver would arrive at his home to retrieve the cash. Brock alleges the man on the other end of the phone also threatened to kill his family. According to reports, authorities said the “scammers” used the Uber app to direct Loletha Hall to Brock’s home.

When Hall arrived, Brock demanded she tell him who she was working for, allegedly took her phone and prevented her from getting in her car to leave. That’s when her shot her 3 times and called 911 after.
