Scientists using a NASA space telescope have discovered a promising world. It’s about the size of Earth, sits really close to our solar system, and could potentially hold life. Sounds crazy right? Well, not to me.
The extrasolar planet, or “exoplanet,” named Gliese 12 b, orbits a red dwarf star located just around 40 light-years from Earth in the constellation Pisces.
Gliese 12 b is located in its planetary system’s habitable zone. Also known as the “Goldilocks Zone,” the habitable zone is the region around a star that is neither too hot nor too cold for planets to host liquid water, which we can’t live without. This is exciting news, however I’m more shocked that we haven’t found a planet like this sooner.
It’s amazing that scientist are looking to discover wether or not “we” could live on Gliese 12 b, but I think NASA should more worried about “life or aliens” already being on the planet. I have no interest in exploring other planets when we hardly take care of Earth.
On another note, the two science teams behind the discovery of Gliese 12 b can’t say for sure if it has an atmosphere, which is obviously the most important thing since it helps make life possible by providing us with air to breathe and shielding us from harmful radiation coming from the Sun. Nonetheless, researches are still hopeful that this could potentially be the start of something new.
