8-year-old Amir Harden was fatally shot while protecting his mother from his dad, who had just been released from jail on domestic violence charges.
A bullet that was meant for his mom, Cherish Edwards, ending up striking Amir. According to CBS News, Amir was shot in the head and neck at his family’s home in Burnsville last week by his father, Danair Harden.
Amir’s father, had been released from jail just hours before the shooting after being charged with domestic violence. The court had been warned that Danair posed an immediate threat to his family, but he was still able to return to their home.
After shooting his son, Danair ended up turning the gun on himself and shooting in front Amir’s four siblings.
It’s reported that Danair remains in critical condition and has not been arrested.
Burnsville police are investigating what happened, and a city spokesperson says if Harden’s father lives, criminal charges will be considered.
