Alderman Lamont Robinson of Chicago’s 4th Ward wants the city to close the beach 2 hours earlier than normal after multiple people were shot and at least 3 people were killed on separate occasions.
Robinson emphasized the need to enforce the beach closure at 9 p.m. and announced that any vehicle parked illegally near the beach after the time, would be towed.
“We will be towing cars all night long. Residents want to be able to park in their neighborhood and want peace around their homes, and I am committed to making that happen,” Robinson said in a Facebook post.
He added that everyone is welcome at the beach, but there are rules to follow, and “we will be cracking down.”
Robinson reported that 37 cars were towed on Sunday morning, and an individual was taken into custody at the bag check for attempting to bring a gun to the beach.
