CHICAGO WOMEN FACE FELONY CHARGES AFTER STEALING $17K IN CLOTHING FROM LULULEMON

According to a report from CWB Chicago and Chicago police, the stores found that two women took clothing and other items worth $17,374.

An investigative unit from the CPD noticed a vehicle associated with the thefts near the 5200 block of South Cottage Grove approximately 45 minutes after the most recent incident. According to the report, two individuals fled from the vehicle when law enforcement approached them.

A 19-year-old individual named Makhia Russell, from Calumet City, fled from the passenger seat, as stated by CPD. Law enforcement held her and discovered she was carrying $1,326 in cash, mostly small bills. The driver, Cmya Benson, 22, was also apprehended.

One hundred ninety-three clothing items with Lululemon price tags were found inside the vehicle. Store loss prevention agents verified that the items were stolen goods.

Based on her arrest report, surveillance videos from the stores showed Russell involved in all five thefts. According to the report, Benson allegedly informed the police that Russell and another individual had hired her as the getaway driver.

The two women face charges of felony theft and running an ongoing financial crime operation.

Judge Shauna Boliker granted them release while they wait for trial.
