Following the resignation of Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez, concerns arose regarding whether Mayor Brandon Johnson had requested him and other board members to step down in response to widespread reports of a mass resignation from the Chicago School Board. The mayor denied asking board members to resign.k
When asked the question, his response was
“I don’t ever discuss personnel issues,” he said. “I find it to be highly offensive, irresponsible and raggedy, and I don’t do raggedy.”
“I was elected to fight for the people of the city and whoever is in the way, get out of it,” he said.
Some aldermen are in agreement with the Chicago Teacher’s Union regarding the necessity for the CPS CEO to devise a plan for revenue options. Alderman Andre Vasquez of the 40th Ward stated that the mayor should also be responsible for doing so.
