A one-year-old boy named Jiryiah Johnson was tragically killed by his babysitter’s pit bull dogs. The dogs attacked him in a terrible “tug of war” game, and a 13-year-old girl, who happens to be the babysitter’s daughter, tried her best to save him.
Jiryiah was being cared for by 36-year-old Heather Rodriguez in Converse, Texas, but Heather left the baby alone with her daughter. The three dogs attacked Jiryiah in several rooms of the house, and the 13-year-old girl tried to help but couldn’t stop the dogs.
After the attack, Jiryiah was rushed to the hospital with serious bite wounds on his face, head, and neck. He had severe damage to his throat and couldn’t breathe on his own.
It was announced that Jiryiah passed away on Monday night.
Heather Rodriguez was arrested and charged with injury to a child for not protecting Jiryiah. The police are also looking into more charges because her daughter was hurt too.
The dogs, called “XL pits,” had been known to be dangerous before. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office had even been called about their behavior before this attack happened. The child’s mother, Erika Castro says she’s been having panic attacks over her child’s gruesome death.
