CHANCE THE RAPPER HOSTS A STAR LINE LISTENING EXPERIENCE CALLED “WRITINGS ON THE WALL”

MIAMI | ART BASEL

Chance the Rapper has consistently challenged industry standards throughout his career, rising to prominence as the first artist to achieve fame through SoundCloud. His album *Coloring Book*, which was released exclusively for streaming, made history at the Grammy Awards. In 2017, he became the first independent artist to win three Grammy Awards without releasing a physical album, changing the way streams were counted as sales. Additionally, he played a crucial role in rescuing SoundCloud from financial difficulties, paving the way for future independent artists to share their music. By embracing new technology and ensuring that fans could easily access his work, Chance changed the landscape of music distribution and fan interaction.

His innovative approach was evident from the success of *Acid Rap* to his choice to stay independent. Released in 2013 as a free mixtape, *Acid Rap* made a comeback in 2019, debuting at #5 on the Billboard 200 and solidifying Chance’s position as a leading voice of his generation. Writings On The Wall expanded on his tradition of creativity. Throughout 2024, Chance rolled out personal, technology-enhanced experiences throughout North America, providing fans with a distinctive way to interact with Star Line and surpassing a standard listening event. These thoughtfully designed venues combined art, music, film, and emotion, crafting immersive atmospheres that invited fans to put down their phones and fully engage with the music and visuals surrounding them.

In Miami, participants relaxed on large bean bags, wore headphones for an immersive sound experience, and felt the vibrations through subwoofers as lyrics and visuals were displayed on the walls, merging audio with graphic art. In addition to listening to unreleased tracks, they saw substantial physical art pieces and exclusive film footage from the Star Line project, all within an environment intended for contemplation and engagement. Attendees also received notebooks to write down their thoughts and questions, helping to create a personal connection to the work and providing insight into Chance’s creative process. There was also a chance to buy exclusive limited-edition Star Line merchandise on-site.
