MAN CHARGED AFTER CHICAGO SOUTH SIDE BUILDING EVACUATE DUE TO EXPLOSIVES SCARE

A man has been charged with a misdemeanor after the CPD bomb unit responded to the South Side high-rise Monday morning.

Kameron Younger, 36, was charged with one misdemeanor count of possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card.

Police were called Lake Meadows Apartments on 533 East 33rd Place after HVAC contract worker Melissa Carraway reported finding red flags in a unit.

Carraway said the discovery happened around 10 a.m. in a unit on the sixth floor. She was not sure what to do at first, but says she called police about a half hour later.

According to CBS News, Carraway said she also found a rifle and fake IDs in the unit, and police said they took one person into custody.

After several hours inside, CPD said its bomb unit cleared the scene as a precaution, determining the objects were safe and posed no threat.

Younger has been released from custody and due to make his first court appearance on Jan. 27.
