CHICAGO MAN CHARGED IN PROVIDENT HOSPITAL STABBING

A 36-year-old man from Chicago has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred at a hospital on the South Side on Monday afternoon, as reported by Chicago police on Tuesday. 

Nathaniel Price faces charges of aggravated battery involving the use of a deadly weapon in this case, according to police.

According to the Chicago Police Department, he was apprehended in the 500 block of East 51st Street at 1:15 p.m. on Monday. 

Less than 30 minutes prior, he had stabbed a 56-year-old man and inflicted injuries on a 32-year-old man in the same area, police stated.

Authorities indicated that the two individuals injured in the incident were staff members of Provident Hospital in Bronzeville. 

The hospital explained that the event took place within its emergency department. Service Employees International Union Local 73, which represents numerous hospital employees within the Cook County Health system, reported that the victims included a physician and one of its members who serves as a physician assistant.

Reports indicated that a male patient produced a sharp object and stabbed the doctor, a 56-year-old, in the chest region.

Police indicated that the doctor was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, a trauma facility, where he is in fair condition.

Details regarding the physician assistant’s injuries were not immediately available. 

Both victims are anticipated to recover, and the hospital reported that its security team responded swiftly, although the circumstances leading to the stabbing remain unclear.

Price is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a detention hearing.
