BRAZIL TEEN DIES AFTER INJECTING HIMSELF WITH DEAD BUTTERFLY REMAINS MIXED WITH WATER

14 year old Davi Nunes Moreira, has died in a hospital in Planalto Brazil after reportedly injecting himself with a mixture of water and butterfly remains, an act authorities suspect may be linked to a dangerous online challenge.

According to Times of India, Davi told his father he had injured himself while playing. However, as his condition worsened, he admitted to medics that he had gone to a chemist’s, mixed a dead butterfly with water, and injected it into his leg.

Davi’s cause of death remains under investigation, with authorities suspecting a possible link to toxins in the butterfly remains that may have triggered septic shock.

Although Davi reportedly denied participating in a challenge before his death, his case has raised concerns about the influence of social media. His father later found the syringe hidden under his pillow.

Experts note that some butterflies, particularly Monarch butterflies, contain toxins from the milkweed they consume. While these toxins can deter predators, they are generally not considered lethal to humans. However, the risks of injecting such substances remain unclear.

Social media reactions to the incident reflect growing fears over online challenges. Some users have called for an investigation into Davi’s social media activity, while others have expressed concern about the influence of viral trends.

Davi’s case is not the first dangerous internet challenge to gain attention in Brazil. In April 2024, a social media influencer with 2 million followers, Thammy MC, suffered necrosis after participating in a viral challenge.

Davi’s death serves as another stark reminder of the dangers some online trends may pose.
