As Boosie prepares for his annual Boosie Bash this weekend, he’s using the platform to honor the memory of Caleb Wilson, a Southern University student who tragically lost his life during a hazing ritual last month.

Baton Rouge-born rapper Boosie Badazz (Torence Hatch Jr.) will help launch the Caleb Wilson Memorial Scholarship during the three-day hip-hop festival, he said on WBRZ‘s “2une In” on Friday morning.

Boosie is working with the Wilson family and Southern’s Human Jukebox, of which Wilson was a member, to initiate the scholarship, he said, adding that some of the festival proceeds will go to the scholarship fund.

The scholarship comes in the wake of a devastating incident involving members of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, where Wilson and seven other pledges were subjected to violent hazing inside a Baton Rouge warehouse on February 26. Court documents allege the pledges were forced to wear grey sweatsuits and repeatedly punched in the chest with boxing gloves. Wilson collapsed after the fourth round and later died at a hospital.

Subtitled Baton Rouge Hip-Hop Festival, the three-day party features performances by Boosie, in addition to Glorilla, Sexyy Red, Dababy, Snug, BG, Big Boogie, Level, BJ So Cole, Ratchet Lo and Supa King Big Pope.

In tribute to Wilson’s life, the Caleb Wilson Memorial Scholarship is a step toward supporting other students as they pursue their education at Southern.
