April 6th 2025, Award-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler made a special trip to Chicago to host a private screening of his highly anticipated new film, “Sinners,” starring longtime collaborator Michael B. Jordan.
The intimate event was a powerful evening filled with storytelling, legacy, and community. Hosted by @bpopetv, the night featured a post-screening Q&A with Coogler, legendary Chicago Bulls icon Buddy Guy, and the film’s composer Ludwig Göransson.
A standout moment came when Coogler reconnected with Chairman Fred Hampton Jr.—their first public interaction since the release of Coogler’s critically acclaimed film “Judas and the Black Messiah.” That film told the story of Fred Hampton Sr., the influential leader of the Chicago Black Panther Party who was tragically murdered by the Chicago Police Department in his home on the city’s West Side. The reunion between Coogler and Hampton Jr. was a heartfelt nod to the ongoing legacy of Black activism and storytelling through film.
The energy throughout the night was vibrant and full of love. With Coogler’s wife being a Chicago native, the room was filled with friends, family, and familiar faces, creating a welcoming and celebratory atmosphere.
“Sinners” is already generating buzz—and if the Chicago screening is any indication, audiences are in for a powerful cinematic experience.
