A serious accident on the West Side early Sunday morning resulted in the deaths of two men and left a woman in critical condition. Although the names of the victims have not been released, authorities reported that the incident occurred when one driver ran a red light, colliding with another vehicle.
Police stated that officers were responding to a call when they noticed a dark-colored sedan speeding south on Central Avenue. The officers alerted dispatchers about the speeding car while continuing to their initial call.
Shortly thereafter, police reported that a 36-year-old driver was operating a different dark-colored sedan heading east on Augusta Boulevard when he ran a red light at Central Avenue just after 2 a.m., colliding with the sedan the officers had initially observed. One of the sedans also struck the front of a beige minivan approaching the traffic light.
The two vehicles ultimately stopped in the driveways of two different residences in South Austin. Three individuals from the two cars sustained serious injuries. One of the engines from the vehicle was found in a nearby yard, and one man’s body was discovered in the basement of a home.
According to Facebook, one of the victims Alex Coleman, widely known as “Poppa,” was celebrated for his comedic live videos and humorous personality. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families affected by this tragedy.
