It’s not new that Jay-Z has been wanting to open Times Square’s first Black-owned casino in partnership with Caesars and SL Green but now he is leading a bid.
His plan includes $250 million in community investment, starting with $15 million for local programs like childcare, education, and senior services — all managed by a resident-led trust.
Last month, Jay-Z made a surprise appearance at the New York State Capitol to meet with Democratic Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. He discussed Roc Nation’s bid to secure a gaming license and open a Caesars Palace casino in Times Square.
The casino could bring in more visitors, boost local spending, and create thousands of jobs in NYC.
While some locals fear increased traffic and disruption, Jay-Z’s team vows to make improvements and keep community needs front and center.
This isn’t just a casino — it’s a cultural milestone and a bold bet on inclusive growth in the heart of the city.
The deal would make him the second Black casino owner in U.S. history and the first African-American to own a casino in Times Square, according to XXL.
