WHOOPI GOLDBERG COMPARES BEING BLACK IN AMERICA TO LIVING IN IRAN

On a recent episode of The View (June 18, 2025), Whoopi Goldberg sparked debate by comparing the experience of Black Americans to life in Iran. When co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said the U.S. is far freer, Goldberg pushed back: “Not if you’re Black.”

Goldberg pointed to America’s history of racial violence and ongoing fears in Black communities. She acknowledged that the U.S. is a great country, but said many still live in fear — wondering if their children will be safe just walking in their neighborhoods.

The tense exchange highlighted a deeper point: while the U.S. promotes freedom, systemic racism continues to affect Black Americans in ways that can’t be ignored.
