Influential figures such as First Lady, DJ Lady D, and the collective Superjane—which includes Colette, DJ Dayhota, DJ Heather, and DJ Lady D—have played a crucial role in pushing boundaries and showcasing their skills both locally and on the international stage. Their efforts have greatly influenced the development of Chicago’s house music scene and have helped extend its reach around the world.

Her passion for promoting local talent shines through her playlist, featuring artists like Spenzo, Durk, Taylor Bennett, Mello Buckzz, and King Louie, as well as underground tracks that resonate with her audience.

VICKI STREET

As a female DJ, Vicki Street frequently faces the stereotype that audiences prefer something visually appealing. However, she chooses to cut through the distractions and let the music convey its own message. In Chicago, the expectations are even more profound; this city values creativity, knowledge, and passion greatly. Vicki realizes that merely playing the popular hits isn’t sufficient; she has to delve into her music library and astound the audience. Chicago crowds expect to be impressed, and she relishes the challenge, holding herself to equally high standards in her artistry.

Being a Black woman DJ adds another layer of complexity to her experience. She navigates the challenges of being a woman in a predominantly male field, a Black artist in certain environments, all while performing in a city recognized for its high expectations. Nevertheless, Vicki flourishes under that pressure, using it to present her authentic self in the DJ booth. She believes that female DJs can bring distinctive creativity, often mixing tracks in unexpected ways that lead to thrilling performances.

Above all, Vicki is very conscious of her presence and its impact on others, and she fully embraces it. For her, the essence lies in the craft—the skill, creativity, and energy she infuses into each show. Her aim is to perfect her art, energize the crowd, and ensure that everyone who experiences a Vicki Street performance leaves feeling they’ve had the most incredible night ever. That is the legacy she strives to build—one rooted in talent and genuine connection.
