A tragic situation in Memphis is raising tough questions about self-defense, domestic violence, and what it means to step in when someone you care about is in danger.
Tajee Turnage, a Tennessee man, is now facing first-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing his roommate’s boyfriend, Timothy Echols. According to reports, Echols was caught on FaceTime physically assaulting Turnage’s roommate, prompting what some might consider a protective response—but one that turned deadly.

FaceTime Turns Violent
The incident unfolded after the woman involved called her roommate, Tajee, during a violent encounter with her boyfriend. She wasn’t home at the time but showed the abuse over FaceTime. Tajee saw what was happening and, alarmed, rushed back to their residence.
Police say an argument followed, and during the confrontation, Echols allegedly got a hold of one of Tajee’s firearms. A fight broke out over the weapon, and it ended with Echols being shot multiple times. He was later found near some railroad tracks and died from his injuries at a local hospital.
Tajee Cooperated with Police
When police arrived, Tajee was reportedly still at the scene. According to law enforcement, he waived his Miranda rights and cooperated fully with the investigation. He was later arrested and officially charged with first-degree murder.
