A heart-stopping moment turned into a miraculous save this past weekend at FDR Park in South Philadelphia, when a toddler fell from a high slide—and survived with barely a scratch.
The incident happened at the Anna Verna Playground during a family reunion. According to witnesses, the young child had somehow made their way up the large slide structure, but in a moment of misstep, lost balance and fell. What could’ve been a tragedy quickly became a moment of awe and relief, as one of the child’s relatives reacted instantly and jumped in to break the fall.
The dramatic scene unfolded in front of stunned family members. Rafael Miles, a relative, told ABC 6 that his cousin happened to be standing in just the right spot when the child slipped—and managed to catch the toddler mid-air or at least soften the impact enough to prevent major injuries.
Though shaken, the child was reportedly unharmed and did not require hospitalization.
