A Violent Weekend in Chicago

This wasn’t the only major shooting over the weekend. By Sunday morning, at least 35 people had been shot citywide, with five killed, according to ABC7’s weekend count.

Just hours after Bronzeville, another drive-by in Humboldt Park left four people wounded when shots were fired into a group standing on the street (ABC7).

Bronzeville itself has already been hit hard this summer. Earlier in August, a daytime shooting outside a senior residence injured five people (ABC7).

The Bigger Picture

Labor Day is supposed to mark the end of summer celebrations, but instead Chicago families are waking up to more trauma and unanswered questions. With two major mass shootings in Bronzeville alone this month, residents are demanding more safety and accountability.

Community leaders have been quick to point out that while shootings keep happening, arrests and solutions aren’t keeping pace. Without stronger intervention, it feels like Chicago neighborhoods are left to heal on their own.
