A routine cash delivery turned violent Tuesday morning after a Brinks armored truck driver was shot during a robbery outside a Chase Bank in Brighton Park, according to authorities.
The shooting occurred around 9:56 a.m. outside the Chase Bank located near 43rd Street and South Archer Avenue (4363 S. Archer Ave.) on Chicago’s Southwest Side.

According to CBS Chicago and FBI Chicago, a 49-year-old Brinks armored truck officer was shot in both thighs while loading cash into the bank.
Chicago Police say multiple offenders targeted the armored truck during the delivery. During the robbery, the guard was shot and the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. Authorities say the offenders also took the guard’s service weapon and possibly an unknown amount of cash.
The injured guard was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, surveillance footage, or tips related to the robbery to contact Chicago Police or the FBI.
