BOXING STAR ANTHONY JOSHUA INJURED IN CAR ACCIDENT IN NIGERIA THAT KILLED TWO OTHERS

Reports say the crash happened on Monday on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu in Ogun State, close to Joshua’s ancestral hometown. Police indicated Joshua was traveling in the back of a vehicle when it was involved in a collision that turned deadly.

Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo told ESPN that the accident was reportedly triggered by a burst tire, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a stationary truck parked along the road. Authorities confirmed two fatalities at the scene.

“The accident happened as a result of a burst tire on AJ’s vehicle, which caused the driver to lose control and the vehicle to swerve into the stationary truck parked along the road,” Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo told ESPN.

Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention. A representative for Joshua told ESPN that early indications suggested he was okay, but officials were still waiting on further updates.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn also addressed the reports, saying he was attempting to contact Joshua directly and did not want to speculate on his condition beyond what had been seen in circulating images.

The reported accident comes as Joshua is said to be holidaying in Africa following a recent win in Miami. He previously earned his 29th career victory and had been linked to ongoing talks and speculation about a possible future showdown with rival Tyson Fury, who is currently retired.

This is a developing story. We will update this post if/when an official press release is issued and additional confirmed details become available.
