A teenager was killed and two others were critically injured after a violent early-morning crash that sent a vehicle slamming into multiple homes on Chicago’s South Side.

According to Fox News, the crash happened around 5:20 a.m. Sunday in the Park Manor / Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. Chicago police say an 18-year-old driver was behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee when he lost control while traveling near East Marquette Road and South Wabash Avenue. The vehicle veered off the roadway, striking several residential properties before coming to a stop.

The driver was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Two passengers — including a 14-year-old boy — were also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

No residents inside the homes were reported injured, though the crash caused significant property damage, leaving some families shaken as emergency crews worked the scene.

Police later recovered two firearms inside the vehicle, according to authorities. The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating what led up to the crash, including whether speed or other factors played a role.
