Ahead of the 57th NAACP Image Awards, a cornerstone celebration of Black creativity, culture, and excellence, this year’s nominees have officially been announced — and the energy is already buzzing across the entertainment world.
Here at The Cypher, the moment hits especially close to home.
One of our backed projects, Captain Zero, has earned an official nomination — marking a powerful milestone for a story that was built from the community up.

Captain Zero isn’t just another superhero film. It’s a cultural statement in the making. A redefinition of what heroism looks like for a new generation. Rooted in vulnerability, honesty, and lived experience, the film challenges traditional narratives by reminding us that strength doesn’t always look invincible — sometimes it looks human.
From its community-backed beginnings to now standing on a major cultural stage, Captain Zero exists to affirm a truth many people need to hear: feeling like a “zero” doesn’t mean you don’t have the potential to become a hero. This is storytelling with purpose — the kind that resonates, heals, and in some cases, saves lives.

The nomination, however, is just the first step.
To bring this award home, Captain Zero needs the community to show up. With themes centered on mental health, perseverance, and self-acceptance, this project speaks directly to shared realities across our communities — the quiet battles, the resilience, and the journey toward believing in yourself again.
