A substitute teacher at Centennial High School in Las Vegas has been fired after a video surfaced online showing her using the N-word during a classroom discussion.
The clip, which spread rapidly on social media, shows the teacher questioning why white people are not “allowed” to say the word while Black people sometimes do.
“I want to know. I want to know why, when black people are amongst each other, they call each other n—a,” the teacher asks in the clip. Students can be heard reacting with discomfort as the conversation unfolds.
According to KLAS, the Clark County School District confirmed the substitute is no longer employed, saying the remarks were inappropriate and not conducive to a safe, respectful learning environment. School officials emphasized that discussions involving race must be handled carefully and professionally.
