Two teenagers are facing burglary charges after authorities say they hid inside the Macy’s on State Street in downtown Chicago, waited for the store to close, and then stole merchandise.
According WGN TV, the teens allegedly remained inside the store after closing and later emerged to carry out the theft. Investigators say the pair took items including designer sunglasses, cologne, and clothing before leaving the store.
Officials say one of the teens had a detailed map of the Macy’s layout, which authorities believe was used to help navigate the store and target specific items during the burglary.
The incident was discovered after employees reviewing surveillance footage noticed the suspects exiting the building after hours and contacted law enforcement. Deputies later located the teens and reportedly found them wearing some of the stolen clothing. Additional stolen items were later recovered during a search at one suspect’s home.
Both teens were charged with burglary and released to their legal guardians. Their names and exact ages have not been released because they are minors.
