Residents in Chicago’s East Hyde Park neighborhood are growing increasingly frustrated after a wave of vandalism left dozens of vehicles damaged, prompting a police investigation and renewed calls for more street surveillance.
According to WGN News, criminal damage was reported to at least 30 vehicles, with shattered windows and visible damage discovered along residential streets. Photos shared online show cars with smashed glass, highlighting the scale of the destruction and the impact on everyday residents.
Many neighbors say the vandalism has been ongoing and has pushed some to consider leaving the area altogether. One resident told WGN-TV, “I definitely want to move,” expressing fear and exhaustion over repeated incidents and what they describe as a lack of deterrence.
Social media reactions show a mix of anger and resignation, with some residents saying similar incidents happened multiple times in the past. Others are calling on city officials and law enforcement to increase patrols, install more cameras, and take stronger preventive measures to stop repeat offenses.
Chicago police say the investigation is ongoing and have not yet announced any arrests. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity and review any available surveillance footage that could help identify those responsible.
As the investigation continues, neighbors say they’re hoping for accountability — and real solutions — before more damage is done.
