A digital creator known as Wick’d Confections is bringing both flavor and cultural reverence to Black History Month 2026 by recreating historic Black American recipes that date back to the era of slavery, as early as 1865.
With limited ingredients but limitless creativity, these dishes were born out of necessity, resilience, and love. What was once crafted from scraps and scarce supplies has evolved into treasured staples that continue to shape American cuisine today.
Through this tribute, Wick’d Confections is not only honoring the ingenuity of our ancestors, but also reminding audiences that some of the most powerful traditions are rooted in survival, strength, and soul.
In each video, she does more than just cook — she teaches. As she prepares each dish, she weaves in powerful Black history lessons, breaking down the origins of the ingredients, the limited supplies once available, and the vital role these foods played in Black kitchens.
While viewers watch the recipes come together in real time, they’re also gaining a deeper understanding of how these meals were rooted in survival, creativity, and cultural tradition. It’s storytelling, history, and culinary artistry all served on one plate.
