Former Dolton, Illinois mayor Tiffany Henyard is attempting a political comeback — this time hundreds of miles away and under a different party banner.
Henyard has officially filed to run for a seat on the Fulton County Board of Commissioners in Atlanta, Georgia, seeking the District 5 position as a Republican, according to NBC Chicago.
The move comes after Henyard’s turbulent tenure as mayor of Dolton, Illinois, where she served from 2021 until losing her reelection bid in 2025. Her time in office drew national attention due to multiple controversies, public disputes with village officials, and ongoing investigations into the village’s finances.
Despite the scrutiny she faced in Illinois, Henyard appears determined to restart her political career in Georgia. According to election filings, she listed her occupation as a business owner and has already qualified for the upcoming Republican primary.
If she advances, Henyard would face several Democratic candidates in the general race for the Fulton County seat, which oversees policies and budgets for one of Georgia’s largest counties.
The campaign marks a significant shift for Henyard, who previously operated as a Democrat during her time in Illinois politics. Her decision to run as a Republican in Georgia has sparked debate online, with critics questioning the move while supporters say she deserves another chance in public service.
The Fulton County primary election is scheduled for May 2026.
