LOYOLA STUDENT FATALLY SHOT WHILE WALKING WITH FRIENDS

A tragic shooting near Loyola University Chicago has left an 18-year-old woman dead, sending shockwaves through the North Side community.

According to CBS Chicago, the young woman was walking with a group of friends Thursday morning in the Rogers Park neighborhood when a man walked up and fired shots. She was shot in the head and later pronounced dead.

Loyola University President Mark C. Reed confirmed in a message to the university that the victim was Sheridan Gorman, a student at the school. Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the violence, including whether the victim was targeted or caught in the crossfire.

The area near Loyola’s campus, typically filled with students and foot traffic, quickly became an active crime scene as officers responded and began gathering evidence.
