Organizers behind the Wireless Festival are pushing back against criticism, claiming that sponsor PepsiCo had initially approved the decision to book Kanye West as a headliner before later withdrawing support.
According to festival leadership, multiple stakeholders — including sponsors — were consulted ahead of the announcement, and no major concerns were raised at the time. Organizers said the booking process followed normal procedures and suggested that Pepsi’s later exit came after public backlash intensified.
The controversy began when Kanye West was announced as the headline performer for all three nights of the London-based festival. The decision sparked widespread criticism due to the rapper’s past antisemitic remarks, leading several major brands to distance themselves from the event. Pepsi ultimately confirmed it would withdraw its sponsorship amid the backlash.
Festival promoter Melvin Benn has defended the decision publicly, urging critics to allow room for forgiveness and second chances.
