A Bronx woman identified as 71-year-old Cora Robinson says she is living in fear for her health after her apartment became overrun with rats, turning her home into what she describes as an unsafe living environment.

Robinson says the infestation has spread throughout multiple areas of her apartment, including her kitchen and living space. She reported seeing rats running across floors, climbing near appliances, and leaving droppings behind. The ongoing problem has made it difficult for her to sleep, cook, or feel comfortable inside her own home.

According to ABC 7 New York, Robinson has made repeated complaints to her landlord and contacted city housing officials in hopes of getting the issue resolved. Despite those efforts, she says the situation continued to worsen over time. She attempted to control the infestation herself by setting traps and blocking openings, but the rodents reportedly kept returning, leaving her frustrated and concerned.

Robinson says the situation is especially alarming due to her health. As an elderly resident with existing medical concerns, she fears that long-term exposure to rat droppings, urine, and contaminated surfaces could lead to serious illness. Health experts warn that rodents can carry bacteria and diseases that pose significant risks, particularly for older adults or those with weakened immune systems.

After media attention was brought to the case, city officials and pest control crews were reportedly sent to inspect the apartment and begin treatment efforts. Housing advocates say situations like Robinson’s highlight ongoing concerns about tenant safety and the importance of timely responses to serious living condition complaints.

For now, Robinson says she hopes the attention will lead to lasting solutions and restore safe conditions inside her home, but she remains worried about the potential long-term impact on her health.
