A bizarre arrest in Alabama is gaining attention after authorities say a man bit a police K-9 during a struggle while being taken into custody on disorderly conduct charges.

Police have identified the suspect as David Culliver, 46, of Sheffield. According to WHNT, officers responded to reports of a disorderly individual causing a disturbance in a public area. Witnesses reportedly told police that Culliver was behaving aggressively and refusing to comply with requests to calm down.

When officers arrived on the scene, they attempted to detain Culliver, but the situation quickly escalated. Police say he resisted arrest, prompting officers to deploy a trained K-9 unit to assist in bringing him under control. During the struggle, authorities allege Culliver bit the police dog, causing minor injuries to the animal.

Officers were eventually able to restrain Culliver and take him into custody without further incident. The K-9 involved in the incident was treated for its injuries and is expected to recover. Law enforcement officials emphasized the critical role K-9 units play in assisting officers during dangerous or unpredictable situations. These highly trained dogs are often used to help locate suspects, maintain public safety, and support officers during high-risk arrests.

Culliver now faces multiple charges, including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and injuring a police animal. Authorities say harming a law enforcement animal is considered a serious offense and can carry significant penalties if convicted.

While unusual, incidents like this highlight how quickly routine calls can escalate into dangerous encounters for both officers and their K-9 partners. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details could be released as the case moves forward through the legal system.
