According to the FBI, the shooting occurred around 7 a.m. during court-authorized law enforcement activity as federal agents attempted to serve a warrant at a home on Cooper Avenue between 145th and 146th streets.

Neighbors reported hearing authorities announce themselves before gunfire erupted. Witnesses described hearing several shots as the situation unfolded.

Authorities have not publicly released the identity of the person who was killed or provided additional details about what led to the shooting.

The FBI confirmed that no agents were injured in the incident and said the shooting is being reviewed by its Inspection Division.

“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously,” the agency said in a statement, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The deadly incident comes just days after another fatal shooting involving an FBI agent in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood on Monday. That incident involved an off-duty agent who reportedly shot a man accused of firing into a homeless encampment.

The circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s shooting in Dixmoor remain under investigation as authorities work to determine what happened during the warrant operation.

This is a developing story. Additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
