JOHN WALT FOUNDATION HOST 7TH ANNUAL “DINNER WITH JOHN” FUNDRAISER

Thursday, October 10th the John Walt Foundation hosted their 7th Annual “Dinner with John” fundraiser. This special dinner was designed to raise money and support for the John Walt Foundation, a creative non-profit organization based on the west side of Chicago. The founders of this foundation, Nachelle Pugh and west side’s very own Saba, created this non-profit organization in honor of John Walt, an extraordinary rapper and songwriter who was murder in 2017.

John Walt Foundation encourages youth and young adults to use their creative outlets to succeed in both professional and creative spaces. To add on, John Walt Foundation also pushes to the importance of giving back to the community, installing service as one of their major pillars of focus. Each year, the foundation brings the community together to recap all of the hard work, accomplishments, and dedicated members and artist who work hand and hand with this non profit.

Thursday, October 10th, a time was had as many artists, vendors, community activist, and support teams come together in community to celebrate the service, memories, opportunities, and overall greatness that the John Walt Foundation has shared with Chicago. There were many artist who came to support including Chicago’s very own DJ Cashera, SOS, B. Lilly, and Pivot Gang to celebrate the memory of their member John Walt. There were also performances from “Leaves of the Poet’s Tree” a poet group that consist of Lonye, Endy B, and Ms. Mamas as well as Fydele and Young (IN) performing their song “All In.”

Every year the John Walt Foundation awards a few young artist with the JWF Scholarship, providing select young artist to fund their artistry. Rappers MIKE DFG, Fydele, Young(IN), and singers Joseph and Zia Jenaye were awarded and acknowledged for their hard word, amazing creations, and dedication to their crafts. Furthermore, Fydele was the first and only artist to receive Squeak Pivot Award.
The night was not over as the community then gave Nachelle Pugh, one of the founders of John Walt Foundation as well as the mother of John Walt, her everlasting flowers and gratitude for her service, love, and support that she brings to the community.
