LOUISIANA’S YOUNGEST MAYOR RETURNS TO WORK AFTER ARREST ON DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES

Louisiana mayor was arrested on Tuesday for his alleged connection to a drug-trafficking investigation conducted by authorities in his home state.

Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Truong, 25, is among seven defendants charged in the investigation conducted by Louisiana state police and the Bogalusa police department beginning in April 2024. Truong, who became the city’s youngest mayor after he surprisingly defeated incumbent mayor Wendy Perrette in 2022, is facing charges of transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, unauthorized use of a moveable and soliciting for prostitutes.

The other six people all face charges of transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses. Three of them face charges of conspiracy to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance. Another faces an additional charge of distribution of a Schedule II controlled substance. 

Truong’s bail was set at $150,000 and hours later he was released and going back to work at City Hall.

Truong didn’t talk to reporters but he made a statement on social media saying “When you’re cutting contracts, shutting down favors and exerting influence—shaking up things and exposing truths—you become a target,” Truong wrote in a post. “I pray that God reveals every person that had a hand in this, and there are many. If you think I ran a drug operation (and all those other accusations), you’re sadly mistaken. Those who know me, KNOW me and I’ll let God and my attorney handle the rest!”
