A second individual is facing charges connected to the deadly shooting of a 12-year-old girl, as reported by Chicago police. The event took place at approximately 8:29 p.m. on Sunday in a residence located in Calumet Heights on the 9200-block of South Harper Avenue, according to police accounts. Dalilah Batey, aged 12, was shot in the head inside the house.
Batey was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Batey’s father mentioned to ABC7 over the phone on Tuesday night that his daughter was with friends at the time of the shooting. On Wednesday, the Chicago police revealed that a second person had been apprehended and charged concerning the incident. Tyler Wright, 19, has been charged with one felony count of child endangerment resulting in death.
On Tuesday, law enforcement announced that a 14-year-old boy was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was taken into custody close to the residence two hours after the shooting occurred. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reports that the 14-year-old is currently on electronic monitoring and is scheduled to return to court next month. No further details have been provided.
