On Monday evening, the Billy Caldwell Golf Course in Chicago’s Edgebrook neighborhood became chaotic when a black SUV drove onto the course and struck a 70-year-old golfer. The terrifying incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on May 12, 2025.
Witnesses reported the SUV speeding across fairways and greens, with the driver appearing agitated and allegedly armed with a knife. The victim was critically injured near the fifth hole and rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he remains in intensive care.
A quick-thinking course employee pursued the vehicle in a sedan, alerting golfers and helping prevent further harm. Forest Preserve Police eventually cornered and arrested the suspect. Charges are pending.
