According to ABC News, the suspect jumped into the unattended ambulance outside a hospital in the south suburbs. A paramedic was still in the back when the vehicle took off, leading to a terrifying ordeal that stretched for several miles.
State troopers quickly responded, chasing the stolen ambulance along I-294 as the driver weaved through traffic, ignoring sirens and orders to stop. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with several police vehicles in pursuit and traffic briefly brought to a standstill.

The chase eventually came to an end after troopers managed to box in the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without further injury, and the EMS worker inside was safely rescued.
Authorities are now investigating how the suspect gained access to the ambulance and whether mental health or substance use may have been factors in the incident.
