CHICAGO WOMAN ARRESTED OVER $30,000 CHECK LATER CLEARED AND FILES LAWSUIT

A woman from Chicago is speaking out after what she says was a wrongful arrest that turned a routine car purchase into a legal battle. Sade Crockett alleges she was falsely detained in March 2023 while attempting to buy a vehicle at a dealership in Highland Park.

According to reports, Crockett presented a $30000 cashier’s check issued by Fifth Third Bank, which she says was a legitimate birthday gift from her uncle. However, dealership staff reportedly believed the check was fraudulent and contacted police. Officers responded to the scene and, relying on the dealership’s claims, arrested Crockett on felony forgery charges.

She was taken into custody and held overnight, an experience her lawsuit describes as humiliating and unjust. Despite the serious charges, the situation took a major turn months later when the check was officially verified as valid. By July 2023, the case was dropped and recorded as no crime committed.

Now, Crockett is taking legal action. She has filed a lawsuit against the bank, the dealership, and the police, alleging false arrest, racial profiling, and discrimination. The case raises broader concerns about how quickly assumptions can escalate into life altering consequences, especially in situations involving financial transactions and law enforcement response.

As the lawsuit moves forward, many are watching closely to see how the courts handle the claims and whether accountability will be established for what Crockett says was a deeply wrongful experience.
