Chicago showed up and showed out for one of its hometown legends as Twista officially kicked off his City Winery tour with two sold-out performances at City Winery Chicago.
The May 9 shows marked Twista’s first time performing at the venue, and the moment felt bigger than just another concert. It was a celebration of Chicago hip hop, live music, legacy, and one of the city’s most respected artists continuing to evolve in real time.
Known worldwide as one of the fastest rappers in history, Twista brought a different energy to the intimate City Winery stage by performing alongside The Cabrini Kings live band. The live instrumentation gave his classic records a fresh feel while still keeping the nostalgia and energy that fans came to experience.

From the moment Twista stepped on stage, the connection between him and the city was clear. Family, friends, longtime supporters, and fans packed both shows, rapping along to records that still feel just as impactful today as when they first dropped.
One of the standout moments of the evening came from violinist Binta Kai, who performed live with Twista for the first time in her career. The performance was even more special because it happened on her birthday, creating a memorable moment for both her and the audience.
Chicago favorites Slique Adams and Liz Toussaint also helped elevate the night with soulful vocals and dynamic performances that complemented the live band and Twista’s legendary delivery.
More than a concert, the night felt like a reminder of Twista’s impact, longevity, and deep connection to the city that raised him.
Throughout both shows, Twista appeared genuinely joyful, smiling through the performances and embracing the love being poured back into him from the crowd. The night highlighted not only his speed and technical ability, but also his artistry, stage presence, and staying power.
What made the City Winery performances especially powerful was watching a legendary artist continue to grow while still honoring the fans and music that helped build his career. The mix of live instrumentation, soulful vocals, storytelling, and Twista’s unmatched flow created an experience that felt intimate, nostalgic, exciting, and fresh all at once.
It was more than a concert. It was another reminder that Twista remains one of hip hop’s greats and a true Chicago treasure whose influence continues to stand the test of time.
