CHICAGO — A Chicago woman is facing a long road to recovery after a devastating hit-and-run crash left her with serious injuries, and now her community is being asked to step in and help.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser created by Christina Horton on behalf of her friend Jackie Zoumanigui, with Jackie’s permission, the crash left Jackie with multiple fractures in her right arm, extending from her shoulder to her elbow.

Jackie has already undergone extensive surgery and is expected to face months of rehabilitation, physical therapy, and follow-up care as doctors continue to monitor her recovery.

Because the injury is to her dominant arm, the fundraiser says Jackie is unable to work for the foreseeable future. Her job requires the use of both arms, leaving her without income while medical bills and everyday expenses continue to add up.

Funds raised will help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, physical therapy, prescription medications, transportation to medical appointments, rent, utilities, groceries, and other essential needs while Jackie focuses on healing.

Friends describe Jackie as hardworking, kind-hearted, and selfless — someone who has always taken pride in supporting herself and showing up for others. Now, they are asking the community to show up for her.

As of this writing, the GoFundMe has raised more than $3,400 toward its $12,000 goal. Those who are unable to donate are encouraged to share the fundraiser to help Jackie’s story reach more people.
