Poetry, politics and community will share one stage as Lynae Vanee brings her national Black Women Deserve Poems tour to Chicago.
The NAACP Image Award-winning digital creator, orator and cultural commentator will take over Reggies Chicago on Tuesday, July 28, for an evening designed to celebrate, restore and mobilize Black women. The Chicago stop will also feature special guest Chairman Fred Hampton Jr.
Presented as “an evening of poetry, communion and action,” Black Women Deserve Poems brings Vanee’s message from social media into communities across the country. The live experience centers Black women through performance, reflection and honest conversations about the political and social challenges affecting their lives.
Vanee has built an audience through her sharp and poetic commentary on politics, culture and the Black experience. Her work regularly combines humor, history and social analysis while encouraging viewers to remain engaged with the issues shaping their communities.
The tour expands that mission into a space where attendees can gather in person.

That message serves as the foundation for an experience created to honor the mothers, sisters, aunties and community leaders whose strength often holds families and movements together.
The evening is expected to feature live poetry and storytelling, along with an exclusive screening of Vanee’s short film, Sundays in the Overflow. The cinematic project is described as a love letter to Black women navigating the complexities of womanhood while confronting the political forces affecting their communities.
Following the screening, Vanee will be joined by fellow advocates and movement leaders for a conversation surrounding Black women’s political agency, community care and the approaching midterm election season.
With Chairman Fred Hampton Jr. joining the Chicago event, the night is positioned to connect creative expression with the city’s long history of Black organizing and political resistance.
More than a traditional poetry performance, Black Women Deserve Poems is being presented as a community morale booster—one intended to leave Black women feeling seen, supported and prepared to take action.
