DRUSKI IMPERSONATES RAVEN SYMONÉ IN NEW SKIT, VIEWERS HAVE MIXED REACTIONS

Druski knows how to get the internet talking. His sketch appears to reference Raven-Symoné and Orlando Brown, bringing a question back into focus: when does an impression stop being funny and start feeling personal?

THE WORD

  • Druski shared a new sketch October 8 about former child stars.
  • The video appears to reference Raven-Symoné, her wife Miranda Pearman-Maday, Orlando Brown and JoJo Siwa.
  • His earlier conservative-woman parody also prompted debate about the boundaries of comedy.

In the video, Druski wears a mohawk-style look resembling one associated with Raven-Symoné and appears in a Pride parade setting. Another scene recreates the feel of an interview involving Raven and her wife, while a separate impersonation appears to reference Brown.

The combination makes the connection recognizable, particularly for viewers who grew up watching That’s So Raven. In addition to the clear references, Druski captioned the post “Kid Stars grow up & be so Unpredictable.”

While the intention seems purely for entertainment, users online had mixed opinions on his delivery. Some users pointed out that his content is “corny” and “disrespectful.” While other’s emphasize his accuracy on making trending news laughable is a skill worthy of fame.

The question is what exactly is the audience being invited to laugh at. Is the joke created purely for fun or is it a moment to bash celebrities? Or could it be an opportunity to bring awareness on controversial issues?

Druski’s recent characters show how widely he casts his comedic net. In another sketch, he played an abrasive hometown woman in a floral outfit, carrying a small dog, cigarette and beer. His conservative-woman parody drew comparisons to Erika Kirk. Which earned him praise and criticism from viewers who considered the apparent reference to a grieving widow too personal.

Comedy does not need universal approval to work. Satire often depends on discomfort, surprise and exaggeration. But calling something comedy should not end the conversation about its choices.

Viewers can enjoy Druski’s creativity while questioning individual jokes. However, criticism is a response that is unavoidable when pushing the boundaries of comedy. Ultimately, viewers are left asking whether his jokes have something to say beyond getting a reaction.

Nonetheless, Druski’s career continues to evolve. Recently he partnered with Kevin Hart and Kai Cenat in a new comedy-horror film, Livestream From Hell. The project released on Prime Video September 30th, just in time for Halloween.

Conversation question: Is Druski holding up a mirror to celebrity culture, or making the jokes too personal?
